Context Is More Important Than Architecture.
Architecture Complements the Landscape Rather Than Competing With It.

Concept

Integrated Into the Natural Slope

The architectural concept is based on the integration of architecture into the natural slope. For us, context is more important than architecture itself: buildings should complement the existing landscape, work with the terrain and vegetation, and never compete with them.

Despite its distinctive modernist and subtly brutalist character, the complex remains closely connected to its natural surroundings. The volumes follow the topography, occupy different levels and gradually dissolve into the dense tropical vegetation.

Along the same river, the neighbouring Kovacs Project continues this relationship with the landscape, proposing a complete residential community for long-term living alongside the resort.

The slope

A site defined by a natural slope down toward a river canyon could have been levelled into flat building pads — the simpler, more conventional approach.

Instead, the volumes step across the terrain rather than flatten it — occupying different levels of the slope and gradually dissolving into the dense tropical vegetation. The boundary between building and landscape disappears rather than being drawn as a hard line.

Villas & restaurant

Every Space Opens Toward the Landscape

The Villas

Each villa is designed to engage directly with its surroundings. Terraces, swimming pools and living spaces open towards the vegetation and views, making nature a central part of the everyday experience.

The Cottages

Ten business cottages and one presidential suite complete the complex, built into the same stepped terrain and sharing the resort's landscape and hospitality infrastructure. Each has its own kitchenette and balcony or terrace.

The Restaurant

Bar-restaurant "Barbara Bar" sits above the canyon at 345 m², including an infinity pool — a dedicated point from which to experience the landscape, while remaining an integral part of the overall resort structure.

Contemporary Form Is Not an End in Itself — Its Purpose Is to Reveal the Character of the Site and Preserve the Experience of the Natural Environment.

Questions

About PREDMET Kaba-Kaba Resort

What is PREDMET Kaba-Kaba Resort?

PREDMET Kaba-Kaba Resort is a completed and successfully operating hospitality complex by PREDMET.ARCHITECTURE in Bali. It comprises five multi-bedroom rental villas, ten business cottages and a presidential suite, plus a restaurant positioned above a river canyon, all built into the natural slope of the site.

How many units does PREDMET Kaba-Kaba Resort have?

PREDMET Kaba-Kaba Resort has 16 units in total: 5 multi-bedroom rental villas and 11 cottages, alongside a restaurant shared by the whole complex.

What materials and design language define PREDMET Kaba-Kaba Resort?

The architecture combines concrete, natural stone, aged timber and extensive glazing, with a modernist, subtly brutalist character. Natural stone connects the buildings to the terrain, concrete reinforces the contemporary form, and aged timber with vintage Balinese decorative elements adds warmth and local identity.

What's involved in building a resort on a canyon-edge slope in Bali?

A sloped, canyon-edge site requires a PBG (Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung) building permit backed by site-specific technical and structural documentation. Rather than levelling the site, the design follows the topography — volumes are stepped across different levels of the slope, which adds structural and civil engineering work compared to a flat-site build. PREDMET.ARCHITECTURE manages the full PBG package and structural coordination for sites like this.

Can a resort like this generate rental income in Bali?

PREDMET Kaba-Kaba Resort is a working example: it is completed and successfully operating as a hospitality complex, combining five rental villas and eleven cottages with a restaurant. Distinctive architecture tied to a strong site — here, a canyon setting with panoramic views — supports that kind of hospitality operation.
