A development on a steep canyon slope in the Buwit area, following the terrain from the upper plateau down towards the river.
Here, the View Is Not Simply a Backdrop.
It Becomes Part of the Architecture.
The project follows the natural terrain from the upper plateau down towards the river, creating a sequence of residential spaces opening towards the canyon. The upper part of the site accommodates an apartment hotel designed for both short- and long-term stays, together with several types of one-bedroom villas.
This range of formats allows the project to function simultaneously as a residential environment, an investment product and a place for private use.
The residential units are relatively compact, and floor area was not treated as an objective in itself. A smaller footprint could easily have meant a smaller-feeling space.
Instead, what mattered was how the available square metres were organised — how people move through the space, how living scenarios connect, where views are framed, how natural light enters. Careful planning, proportions, glazing and visual connections mean the compact apartments do not feel small.
Every Villa Is Integrated Into the Slope, Working With the Terrain Toward One Goal.
The orientation of buildings, terraces, openings and outdoor spaces is carefully arranged to make the most of the natural panorama across the canyon and towards the sunset — turning the view into a constant part of everyday life, not simply a backdrop.
Maximum Efficiency of Space, Maximum Use of the Site's Visual Potential — Compactness Treated as a Design Challenge, Not a Limitation.
Buwit Canyon Residences is a development by PREDMET.ARCHITECTURE on a steep canyon slope in the Buwit area, Bali. It follows the terrain from the upper plateau down towards the river, with an apartment hotel and several types of one-bedroom villas oriented towards the canyon and sunset.
The upper part of the site holds an apartment hotel designed for both short- and long-term stays, together with several types of one-bedroom villas. This range of formats lets the project function as a residential environment, an investment product and a place for private use at once.
Floor area was not treated as an objective in itself. The design focuses on how people move through the space, how living scenarios connect, where views are framed and how natural light enters. Careful planning, proportions, glazing and visual connections make the compact apartments feel far more generous than their footprint.
Both. The mix of an apartment hotel and one-bedroom villas allows the project to function simultaneously as a residential environment, an investment product and a place for private use.
Yes — treating compactness as a design challenge rather than a limitation, and orienting every unit toward a site's strongest view, is an approach PREDMET.ARCHITECTURE applies across steep and constrained sites, not just at Buwit.
