An intimate hospitality complex above a mountain river in Ubud, surrounded by dense tropical forest — built around an immersive connection with nature and panoramic landscape views.
Architecture Dissolved Into the Tropical Forest.
INSHI combines several types of villas and apartments with a complete wellness infrastructure — a swimming pool, restaurant, massage rooms and sauna. Each accommodation type is designed around privacy, contact with nature and the experience of the surrounding landscape as a natural extension of the interior.
The architecture is expressed through a restrained dark palette — deep graphite and timber tones, natural textures, generous glazing and precise geometry, set in contrast with the intense greenery of the tropical environment. Balinese influences are integrated with restraint — not as literal stylistic imitation, but as part of the atmosphere and identity of the place.
Two enormous mature tropical trees, wrapped in climbing vines, stood on the site before design began. Clearing them would have been the easier path to a conventional layout.
Instead, the buildings are organized around the trees — revealed through a sequence of terraces, open spaces, panoramic glazing and passages between volumes. Their scale and organic character became an integral part of the architectural experience, creating a setting that feels almost otherworldly.
The Complex Takes on a Different Character — Intimate, Quiet and Almost Magical.
Architectural lighting reveals the textures of materials, vegetation, water and selected elements of the landscape, while allowing the surrounding forest to remain in deep shadow.
For Those Looking for More Than Comfortable Accommodation — Privacy, Nature, Architecture, and Distance From the Everyday World.
INSHI is an intimate hospitality complex by PREDMET.ARCHITECTURE, positioned above a mountain river and canyon in Ubud, Bali. It combines several types of villas and apartments with a complete wellness infrastructure — swimming pool, restaurant, massage rooms and sauna — designed around privacy and an immersive connection with nature.
The site holds two enormous mature tropical trees, wrapped in climbing vines, which were preserved rather than cleared. Their scale and organic character became an integral part of the architectural experience, and the buildings are organized around them through a sequence of terraces, open spaces and passages between volumes.
INSHI includes several types of villas and apartments alongside a full wellness infrastructure: a swimming pool, restaurant, massage rooms and sauna.
A project of this scale runs through the same six stages as any PREDMET.ARCHITECTURE project — site analysis, strategy, concept, design, detailing and delivery — with construction supervised on site throughout. A canyon-edge site with mature trees to preserve adds survey and structural work beyond a standard flat-site villa; message the studio with your site for a schedule specific to your project.
A steep, forested site requires a PBG (Persetujuan Bangunan Gedung) building permit backed by site-specific technical documentation, plus careful structural planning around existing trees and terrain rather than clearing the site flat. PREDMET.ARCHITECTURE manages the full PBG package and coordinates with local authorities on sites like this.
